If you went to Surfside Sevens and the American High School Sevens Championship this year, you may have noticed our legendary custom rugby balls were MIA. The balls—used as trophies, game balls and souvenirs—got held up in shipping and did not arrive in time. After a torturous journey fraught with unexplained delays and other mysterious occurrences, the balls have arrived and are ready for delivery!

The bags are packed, banners folded and goalposts broken down, but Surfside Sevens 2015 will go down as the biggest and best “scorin’ at the shore” since the tournament was founded in 2004. 

Surfside Sevens in Stone Harbor NJ welcomes the Hampton Heat to the pitch this year. No ordinary rugby club, the Hampton Heat (aka Heat Elite) is made up of college-aged players from Hampton Roads, Virginia who compete in the Cardinals Collegiate Rugby Conference along with schools such as the University of Richmond, James Madison and Virginia Commonwealth. 

The University of Delaware Men's Rugby Team has officially been reinstated and will begin playing rugby in the fall 2015 season.

On Sunday, the NACRA Sevens brought 18 teams from 10 countries to Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary, NC. As a regional qualifier for the 2016 Olympics, the eyes of the world were on Cary. The press room was full, even if the seats weren’t. As put by commentator Martin Pengelly in The Guardian last month, this weekend represented “some of the most important minutes for rugby in the United States – ever.”

The USA Eagles sevens rugby team, led by Dartmouth’s Madison Hughes, defeated Australia Sunday at the Marriott London Sevens Cup Final to claim their first-ever World Rugby HSBC Sevens World Series championship.

The 14th annual Rugby Delaware Subaru Sevens take place May 16, 2015 at Alapocas Run State Park, Wilmington, Del. The Subaru Sevens is home to some of the best sevens rugby in the tri-state area and is the official kickoff of the high school sevens season in the states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey. 

Local favorites The Hampton Heat demonstrated superior speed and ball handling in a 33-15 Fork victory over Bentley University at the ACRC7s on April 26.
