Schuylkill River
Schuylkill River Exiles Rugby Football Club was founded in 1995 and is the only Division 1 men's club in Pennsylvania who train and play in center city Philadelphia. The club has accomplished a lot going into its 17th year of existence, winning Division III outright in the fall divisional 1999 season and advancing to the final 8 in the nation in the spring Division III playoffs.
In the fall of 2000, their first season in Division II, they became one of the first teams ever to go from Division III to Division I in two years by winning Division II outright. In the spring of 2001, they once again made the National play-offs by competing in the DII Sweet 16.
In 2001, they competed in the Division I Championship Division shocking many by finishing in second place in their first season.
In the spring of 2002, Schuylkill played mostly Division I clubs and competed strongly proving that we were for real and 'here to stay' as a club in DI. Unfortunately, a one point loss in the MARFU play-offs stopped them from getting to Nationals three years in a row in three different divisions.
Fall 2002 began their competition in an even harder DI comprised of MARFU Superleague and Division I teams. Up until that time, SR had competed among the highest levels of domestic rugby, and their sights were on the highest honors in the land.
The club is young, hungry and willing to practice and play hard to become the best Division I club in MARFU, the highest level of divisional rugby in the U.S.A.
