The NJIT rugby team started off as an idea for a club by founder Sal Sorace. Then, getting together with Fraser Croad and Edison Jakupi, the three formed the rugby club at NJIT.
The club gained interest among some students, who started coming to club practices and building the basis of the team.
In the fall of 2012, Coach Mark Petraglia came on board and organized the club into an actual team, with practices happening every week. Coach Mark prepared the team and in the spring of 2013, the team played and won its first game against Morris U-23.
