Conference Update: Keystone

The Keystone Rugby Conference has seen more than its share of drama this fall as several teams vie for the chance to play a fellow conference champ at the ACRC Bowl Series.

With last weekend’s contest against division rival Temple (East #2) in the books, St. Joe's (East #1) looks to cap their victory over a crosstown rival by beating a cross-state challenger in the conference playoffs. Pitt (West #2) seeks redemption after a lopsided 46-14 loss to West Virginia University (West #1).

The Hawks and Panthers meet this Saturday on Hawk Hill.

While Pitt heads east, Temple goes west to meet WVU in the other conference tournament semifinal game.

By Saturday night we will know which two Keystone Rugby Conference (KRC) teams will play in the American Collegiate Rugby Championship Bowl Series in Charlotte on Nov. 21-22. On Nov. 1 the winners will play for the KRC championship and the top-seed berth at the ACRC’s.

Texas Christian 21 - Southern Methodist 3

The rugby side of the Battle for the Iron Skillet raged Friday as Texas Christian University faced Southern Methodist University in Dallas. TCU pulled out the big win 21-3. The Horned Frogs face Baylor this weekend.

Middlebury 23 - Boston College 18

Middlebury College celebrated homecoming weekend with a big 23-18 win over East Coast Rugby Conference rival Boston College on Saturday. The game saw momentum shift frequently as both squads applied intense pressure on defense.

Davenport 39 - Wheeling Jesuit 10

No. 9-ranked ranked Davenport showed their elite stripes in a convincing 39-10 win over No. 12 Wheeling Jesuit Saturday in Grand Rapids.

About the ACRC Bowl Series

High-level collegiate rugby competition comes to Charlotte, N.C. Nov. 21-22, 2014 with the inaugural American Collegiate Rugby Championship Bowl Series. This series of matches in traditional bowl format brings the very best college rugby teams from around the country to Charlotte’s Rugby Athletic Center, a sports and events venue located just three miles from downtown.

The ACRC Bowl Series will feature eight championship bowl games over two days. The tournament is managed by URugby, a division of Sevens Sports LLC, a sports event management and marketing company specializing in creating great experiences around the sport of rugby.

Competition gets underway under the lights Friday evening Nov. 21, and heats up Saturday as the best college teams in the nation take to the pitch to compete for hardware and glory.
