Goff High School Girls, NSCRO College Players of Year Announced

Goff Rugby Report has named its 2014 Girls High School award recipients, and the player of the year comes as no surprise. Morris and Atlantis Rugby alum Tess Feury took top honors for her leadership and stellar performance on the field last year.

Last January, Feury led Atlantis’ first-ever girls U19 team at the Las Vegas Sevens, where the team finished runners-up to British Columbia.

Back home with the New Jersey Blaze, Feury and company took second at the USA D2 Nationals in May, losing only to Pleasanton, CA in the final, before winning in thrilling fashion at the High School Rugby Challenge in PPL Park later that month.

Feury was named a High School rugby All American for the second year in a row in July and played in the Stars & Stripes game in Colorado. The Stars & Stripes game brings together the top 50 female high school rugby players in the country as chosen by national selectors from eight Regional All Star Tournaments.

By August, Fuery was on her way to Nanjing, China to captain the USA Girls Youth Olympic Team at the 2nd Youth Olympic Games.

In the fall, Feury started her college rugby career at Penn State.

Goff also named California's Fallbrook Warriors Girls High School Team of the Year. The Warriors were 2014 national high school champions, beating the Sacramento Amazons in May for their fourth consecutive national title.

NSCRO College 7s Player of the Year

The National Small College Rugby Organization has named Kevon Williams their college 7s player of the year. Williams’ New Mexico Highlands University team made it to the final of the NSCRO National Championship tournament at PPL Park last May, falling to national champs New England College.

Williams' club play with the Denver Barbarians over the summer caught the eye of the USA Eagles, and he was invited to participate in a high performance camp run by Eagles' head coach Mike Friday.

“His talents were unveiled on a national scale in 2014, and it isn’t hard to imagine his star continuing to rise in 2015 and beyond," Rugby Today's Pat Clifton wrote in a press release from the NSCRO.
