AIC or Boston College to Face Clemson at Bowl Series
The East Coast Rugby Conference (ECRC) has reached new heights of rugby excellence and national profile with stellar seasons from American International College and Boston College. One of these teams —both currently sitting atop ECRC standings with 5-0 records — will earn the right to play reigning Atlantic Coast Rugby Conference (ACRL) champs Clemson at the ACRC Bowl Series in Charlotte on Nov. 20-21.
Also attending the Bowl Series will be fellow ECRC power UMass (opponent yet to be determined).
Amazing AIC
AIC sits atop the Goff Rugby Report D1 College Ranking this week, after an 88-0 defeat of Middlebury. AIC has vanquished all comers this fall in dominant style, beginning with a 34-27 win over perennial powerhouse Penn State. Since then, no team has gotten close as the Yellow Jackets have outscored opponents by an astonishing 538-44. Since Penn State, only one foe (Dartmouth) has managed to put up more than 7 points against them.
Beantown Bruisers
Boston College (ranked #19 by Goff) has also dominated this season, racking up three shutouts and outscoring opponents 324-58. BC’s recent victories over New England College and UMass are a key argument for those who think they can take AIC when the two teams meet to close out the ECRC regular season on Nov. 7.
Clemson: Fear the Paw
Clemson earned a bowl series berth with their ACRL crown last year and defeat of SCRC champs South Carolina in the Palmetto Bowl at the 2014 Bowl Series. The Tigers were Penn Mutual Varsity Cup Elite 8 finishers in 2015. They are 2-0 in conference play so far this fall, facing a key opponent this Saturday in Maryland.
