Trejo Scores Four Tries to Lead BC Past IPFW

The Bethel men's rugby team was back on the pitch on Saturday, facing Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne in the second match in program history. The Pilots did not disappoint! As a follow-up to their 69-17 slashing of Taylor a week ago, Bethel defeated IPFW 41-15, showing another dominate performance both offensively and defensively.

After the Mastodons from IPFW opened up the match with a try, the Pilots responded with 22 unanswered points. Keoni Tom-Millare got the Pilots on the board with a try, tying the match at 5-5 while Jack Dugan converted on the conversion kick to give the Pilots their first lead of the day. The Pilots kept moving forward as Adam Trejo tallied a pair of tries sandwiching a score from Trevor Stump, which boosted the Pilots advantage to 22-5. IPFW was able to tack on a try before the half, leaving the Pilots with a 12-point lead at the break.

Just as in the Taylor match, Bethel opened up the game in the second half of play. After IPFW trimmed the lead down to 7 by scoring another try, Bethel posted three consecutive tries along with two conversion kicks to balloon the score to 41-15, which would prove to be the final tally. PJ Ellis scored the first try of the half for BC, marking his first collegiate try. Bethel's leading scorer, Trejo, then posted the last two scores for the Pilots. In the second half, Caleb Keas took over kicking duty for BC and connected on two of his three attempts.

Next weekend, the Pilots will be on the road, but they won't be going far. The Bethel men's rugby team will make the short jog over to the University of Notre Dame to take on the Fighting Irish on Saturday, October 3rd. The match is currently scheduled for noon.
