Bethel Falls just Short to Notre Dame
Bethel men's rugby took the field against the Irish of Notre Dame on Saturday, and despite a valiant effort, the Pilots fell to ND 15-12. The loss is the first blemish on Bethel's record this season having won the first three matches, one by forfeit and two on the field. BC is now 3-1 on the season.
While the other two matches that BC has played were high scoring, today's match, although fast paced, did not light up the scoreboard. The Irish struck first with a try to go up 5-0, but BC responded before the half with a try scored by Keoni Tom-Millare followed by the two-point kick conversion from Trevor Stump to give BC a 7-5 lead at the half.
In the second stanza, Notre Dame regained the lead on a penalty kick that split the uprights, which is worth three points. Trailing by a single point in a match where points were hard to come by, Bethel's Caleb Keas posted the team's second try of the day to give the Pilots a 12-8 lead. Unfortunately, in the low scoring back-and-forth affair, it was the Irish who posted the final try of the match with around 10 minutes left to play. The conversion after the try was good, giving Notre Dame the 15-12 win over the Pilots.
The Pilots will return to their home field for their next match on October 17th against Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
