Keystone 7s Series Comes to Temple This Weekend
The 2016 Keystone Rugby Conference 7's Series heads to Temple University on April 2, 2016. It will be played at the 10th and Cecil B Moore turf field next to the Temple campus in North Philadelphia.
The first round was held at West Virginia University’s Mylan Park on March 19th. Villanova won the Shield, Pitt the Bowl, St. Joe’s the Plate and James Madison captured the Cup, winning the final 21-7 over Temple.
The last part of the series will be held on April 16th at West Chester University inside the football stadium.
At each leg of the series, each team will earn a certain number of points depending on how they finish. Points will be accumulated over the 3 tournaments and will be tallied at the conclusion of the series to determine the 2016 Keystone Conference Champion.
This year's field of teams may be the most competitive yet. Both Saint Joseph's and Temple have led the way in sevens the past two years and should be strong again this year. The Hawks are coming off strong showings at the Ariel Re Bermuda 7s and City Six 7s in addition to Keystone play. Temple won the first installment of the City Six 7s last week.
Keystone welcomes back West Virginia who made the jump to Rugby East for 15's this past fall. This spring they don't have 15's nationals to prepare for so they should be dangerous. The Keystone also welcomes James Madison University who looks to continue to impress after winning the Keystone 15's title last fall.
