Bonnies Start Strong But Fall To Iona
On a great day for rugby, Iona hosted and defeated St. Bonaventure RFC on Homecoming weekend.
Iona Coach Bruce McLane, fresh off a a close battle with Army, was looking to run the table through to the ACRC Bowl Series. The Bonnies had other ideas and battled the Gaels to the half trailing by just four with the score 8-12.
Bonaventure kicked to Iona to start the second half. Iona possessed the ball well and punched over for unconverted try to take a 17-8 lead. Iona continued to control scoring three additional tries before the Bonnies could answer (29-13). It was all Iona the rest of the way as they scored twice more to win 43-13.
Iona is one of the few teams already committed to attending the ACRC Bowl Series Nov 21 and 22 in Charlotte NC regardless of their final conference standings.
